Have you got power in your garage ?

If so, go for an electric one with a warranty

And avoid the super cheap ones as the bearings don't last long. I got a makita from Amazon for about £45 and it's brilliant. At work they refuse to get a decnt one and we have spent more than that on cheap ones that keep wearing out.

http://www.amazon.co...a angle grinder

Price has gone up a bit, but they are often on offer. They do a rechargeable one as well but I think it is about £90

I wouldn't recommend a cordless grinder as your sole tool for finishing welds. Although they are very handy (I have an 18v Milwaukee one) the battery's make them a bit tricky to wield and unless you get 2 or 3 batteries you'll be forever waiting on the charger.

I've been using one of these Bosch grinders daily for the past 3 years and it's still going strong. Clicky

I've got that makita 240v grinder in the garage, along with my old clarke one so I can keep one for cutting and one for linishing save swapping discs all the time. Can't knock the makita at all, glad I finally stopped buying the cheapo ones.

I use an 18v makita at work a lot and that's only because we need to cut copper bars when we're on a mains shutdown. They really eat batteries and don't have much umph to them.

Cordless are really good for grinding off wheel clamps, or so I've been told ;D .

Don't knock the B&Q cheapie ones. I have their large one which I have now had for 4 years and goes well. I also have three of the smaller ones. Different discs on them and again work well. I have killed two in four years but at £18 each im not complaining. I have also had other makes like Makita, Bosche etc and have killed them as well.

Each to their own I know but £36 over four very hard years cannot be bad.
