Need some advice folks, this morning going to work the mini was coughing and spluttering the whole journey ( 13 miles ) didn't conk out and idled OK at the lights, but the rev counter was bouncing all over the place jumps from 1000 to 3/ or 4000 revs, half a tank of fuel, new NGK spark plugs, leads, and rotor arm,air filter, oil filter Jan this year, I've got no weather shield but I have a good price of rubber behind the grill ( dry today ) and the only problem with the car is the drive shaft bearing, I also noticed the temperature rose to about 100 by the time I got home, its usually about the 80 marc

Check the coil connections,
Change the points and condensor(if fitted)
Remove the carb from the car, strip, clean and inspect

Did you get the fault resolved?

Sounds like bad spark (and all that that can cause). As above, do points and then do a spark test
plus it can never be a bad idea to clean the carb...
Best wishes

Sorry cal, meant to get back to you sooner, I wasn't really keen on stripping the carb to be honest, so I checked some of the wires around the coil, cleaned some cut them back put new connect ions on and it seemed to have worked, but my bloody wipers don't work now

The rev counter jumping about is a indication of a low tension fault on the ignition, usually points/condensor or LT wiring
