As the title really I have just aquired the engine and gearbox for project s and I have been told that the original gearbox gave up years ago and this unit had been sourced direct from bmcs rear doors and is believed to be 1275 gt box same as mk2 cooper s ? Here's a pic of the casing number I can't seem to find any other numbers in the box but haven't striped it down !! Any help would be greatly appreciated and I apologise if this has been covered before! FF6F40A3-3BD0-4A7B-B15A-3B71A256DE07.jpg

Quoted from a Guess-Works post.

22G1128 is a 4 synch remote box, non cooper S,could be off pretty much any mk3 mini or ado16 (austin 1100) type vehicle all depends on the bolt orientation of the remote.

Nothing special.

Just found a site that says the casing is used through out a vast number of models but the internals are different ! Can I check without striping if so a how to would be great as my knowledge of gboxes is limited !!

A picture of the diff tail housing would be helpful, this will also tell you two things:

- what type of output shafts are fitted (rubber coupling or hardy-spicer)

- if the gearbox remote is mini or 1100/1300 type

To be sure about the gearbox ratios the box really needs to be split from the engine.

OK - looking down into gearbox from front you will see two shafts with 4 gears on each shaft. The one closest to front is all in one piece and is the layshaft, look to see if there are any numbers stamped on it - may be small and not easy to spot.

Then look at the other shaft, and find the smallest helical gear on the left side (still inside the gearbox). Count the number of teeth, this should be either 17 or 18 teeth.

Hi I can't find a number on the lay shaft any where but the smallest gear on the other has 17 teeth ? Does this mean anything to any one ?
Cheers

Your gearbox has standard helical ratios fitted.
