I've recently managed to get my hand on a 1976 mini, however, as common with minis, the majority of the floor is in need of replacing, as well as most of the front end. As I am without welder I could do with knowing whether to use either mig or tig, or whether doesn't matter.

Mig will be easier and quicker, Tig will be neater but a lot slower. I think the overall majority of us Mig weld.

Migs are a lot easyer than TIGs, Have you done any welding before?

I would look out for a clarke 135te, a lot of people on the forum have them and always recommend them.

No not really, I've done some brazing, but I've being told that its a completely different technique. So it should be a laugh trying to learn.

A lot of our members have started from scratch when it comes to welding. Once you have got yourself a welder then practise on 0.9mm thick steel sheet as this is the main thickness of the steel found in our little cars.

Right then, thanks for the advice. Once I've managed to get myself a welder I'll give it a try and see how it goes.

Post up pictures of your attempts and we can point you in the right direction to improve etc if needs be.

definatly Mig,

 

 

Tig is great, but its slow and the metal needs to be clean clean clean! also its much harder to bridge gas with tig.
