Anyone think we should have a genral guide section on the forum that covers the most common repairs or mods? Even the simple stuff such as changing bulbs air filter replacements ect and even maybe a tips section that covers stuff like seized bolts ect?

I think it would be a good idea and will make the forum more complete

Brilliant idea.

We have the FAQs, but it is somewhat lacking, and guides that are made never seem to find their way there. Most of the pictures don't work either.

Definitely required asap.  Fed up of coming on every couple days to find numerous threads asking how to lower your Mini, what are hi-los, will my Mini be fine without mods with 7x13s etc etc etc.  All questions that have been answered nearly 50yrs ago but still get asked today

But the trouble is very few look in the FAQs ! I put tons of stuff in the electrical section only for those questions to be asked over and over as you pointed out, we should have a heading saying check here to see if your problem has been covered in the FAQs. Admin and other members of the Team will be here I'm sure to help resolve this issue.

Not really a guide though is it? With clear pictures and detailed instructions and/or explanations.

Dave (KernowCooper) on here puts loads of stuff in the electrical section which has proved to be extremely useful to me. This is the sort of stuff that the Haynes doesn't even mention, let alone explain.

I have a project I have been working on for this sort of thing - a bit of a library reference archive with visual guides, photos etc (some may have read about it on various facebook mini groups) that users can contribute and share common problems and associated photos of how they got round certain tasks (ie, bolts shearing, links to replacement parts and tools needed).

If anyone has any Mini World or Mini Magazines to hand/sell/borrow please get in touch.

Sounds like a good idea to me, the difficulty would be getting people to spend a bit of time using it before posting a question, which is easier

There's nothing stopping anyone making a guide on how to do something...

But there's no point saying this would be a good idea and then waiting for someone else to do it...

In the past I've written numerous guides, some are even still there....

Have a go, get it vetted by the mini docs/tech team and I'm sure they will be happy to put it in the correct part of the FAQ knowledge base.

Basically John has hit the nail on the head. By all means write a guide with pictures to back it up. Pass it onto the forum team where we will vet it for suitability. If then it's good we can add it to the FAQS. But before this is done please visit the relevant section to see whether there is a pinned post or in the FAQS first.

but they will still happen as the sort of people who post without searching won't think to look in the guide section. And I may be alone in this but I think it makes it a welcoming place if questions are answered even if they have been asked a thousand times before. After all if you don't want to answer you don't have to. Having said all that I think an expanded FAQ section would be good as well
