I have a 1990 rover Mini check mate 998 that has started screeching really loudly wether i'm in gear or in neutral, the harder i rev the louder and more persistent it gets. I've checked the belt from the alternator and it seems to be pretty tight, it's also in pretty good condition as far as wear is concerned. There's no leaks from the radiator etc everything is pretty spot on. Any suggestions on anything else it could be? It stops screeching when the clutch is pressed in but starts again as soon as you let the clutch out.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the clutch release bearing is at fault. This is mounted on the cover ( wok) and reasonably straight forward to do.

Yes as Sonikk as said sounds like the clutch bearing..... You will need to lift the engine slightly on the left to get the bolts off the bottom of the wok....... But pretty much straight forward to do

Cheers j

Thanks for that both of you, sounds like it could be that as when the clutch is out theres a slight rattling noise, then that stops when you dip the clutch.

Thanks again :-)
