Is it Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland as it makes a big difference..
As Northern Ireland is part of the UK, then you can just drive it over....
If not then it's an EU car which can be driven in the UK for 6 months before it must be registered as a UK car and go through the necessary tests for MOT and Tax. You may have trouble with insurance if it is not a UK registered car.

For purposes of importing, you would need to declare through customs.
You would then need to scrap the number plates & DVLA would issue 'new' UK plates.
With the new plates, a new UK MOT is required along with tax & insurance.

Thank your lucky stars you're not in Belgium: got a mini from the Netherlands and waited 3 months for the DIV (belgium DVLA) to return the paperwork!

I did this not so long ago. You can bring it over and drive it with the NI MOT as long as the car originates from the UK or NI.
