Folks please note there has been a rule change with regards to selling / swapping of animals / reptiles on TMF.

This is something we have not taken lightly as it is a very grey area which we have concerns with. There are many ramifications with regards to doing this and can create many issues so please note as of today this is now forbidden on TMF.

Good!! Why would anyone want to swap a door for a gecko? So glad you guys have done this!

It's difficult because we don't want to have too many rules however this is a mini forum.

A large amount of discussion has gone on behind the scenes and it has been decided that this isn't the best place to find suitable homes for animals

It's only a rule we had to add because we could never have foreseen that people would even consider swapping animals for a car part.

There are specific places to trade in such things, we have NO idea what is legal and illegal in terms of dealing with exotic species etc. too.

Geckos are silly cheap anyway, it'd be a pretty rusty door for the value of one haha

Pleased to see this. The sale and purchase of animals, no matter what they are, is not something to be taken lightly, and the internet, especially a car forum is certainly not the place for it.

I saw the related thread and was going to report my concerns but never got round to it. I'm glad something has been done, well done.

I work in the animal industry myself and understand how thing's work. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing to stop anybody swapping an animal for anything else, currency doesn't come into it providing that the new owner gives the animal all it needs, which for some animals, particularly reptiles, is fairly complex requiring temperature gradients and special diets that require a certain amount of knowledge to mantain in a good, healthy manor.

From a legal stand point it is a grey area, but that isn't relevant, the moral side is all that matters and as a community I think it's a good move.

I too saw the thread and was concerned.

I used to keep reptiles years back, mainly bearded dragons and when it was time to let them go due to other commitments, i used the local spider and reptile club we used to attend to find new homes for them.

You can't go round letting them go to anyone who fancies a go, i have seen too many reptiles in poor health or worse due to the owner not being able to keep them to a high enough standard, They do require alot of care.
