I saw the related thread and was going to report my concerns but never got round to it. I'm glad something has been done, well done.
I work in the animal industry myself and understand how thing's work. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing to stop anybody swapping an animal for anything else, currency doesn't come into it providing that the new owner gives the animal all it needs, which for some animals, particularly reptiles, is fairly complex requiring temperature gradients and special diets that require a certain amount of knowledge to mantain in a good, healthy manor.
From a legal stand point it is a grey area, but that isn't relevant, the moral side is all that matters and as a community I think it's a good move.
