Where is the correct place to position a 4 post auto lift (not the type you can drive onto/not a ramp lift) under a Mini? I'm seeing large amounts of floor damage under my car from garages lifting near the wheels for service.

Subframes are the best. There are nice flat areas on both that are strong enough.

The jacking points on most Minis today wouldnt cope that well (in my opinion)

they would never be any use on a lift as they are designed to lift one side of the car to change a wheel and being located in the middle they would not balance the car. As said above, the slinging points need to be avoided and these are often mistaken for jacking points.

Some bag head once jacked mine up on the sill and the floor was sticking up in the passenger foot well, when jacking up on the front subframe watch out for the battery cable the runs along there :)
