I am ready to change the oil on the mini and even though i have previously used both Millers CTV and Valvoline VR1 would you folk suggest i stick with either or, is one slightly better than the other in your opinion.

I recently gave some training at the Porsche Driving Experience at Silverstone and saw a working model of two sets of gears being lubricated by mineral and synthetic oils.

The difference was plain to see with the mineral oil draining from the gears whilst the synthetic just stuck like glue, i wish i had not seen it as i can picture my gearbox when i start it.......... :ohno:

I use mineral as this works better, you must remember that the engine needs lubed with the same oil as the gearbox.

Although not mini related, my mate has used both oils(changed like for like every 3 months) on his stockrod(1400 vauxhall engine) and we have had a few failures with the millers ctv oil

to date there have been no failures with valvoline VR1

Valvoline VR1 is the probably the best you can get in that viscosity, good formulation and very strong when abused.

Actually the best you can get is arguably Kendall 20w50 mineral, but it may not be available in the UK these days and VR1 is a good alternative.

I use valvoline vr1 in my full race engine 225 bhp, A series  its been good oil and at £50 delivered for 10 litres its great value,  I change the oil after every event.

so i can vouch for this

but if u google it some people ******* it off

Just found this.

It is the absolute finest 20w50 oil for a Mini.

Today i bought some Valvoline VR-1 and a new filter and have just changed the oil and filter so, i will give it a run tomorrow.

Thanks for your opinions and as mentioned Valvoline it is, i will try some Kendall GT-1 Hi performance 20w50 next oil change and see how it goes ( cheers Pete ).
