Drive Gear Help. Forgive My Knowledge!

Best Answer Guess-Works.com , 04 November 2014 - 07:07 PM

You've gone from an A series to an A+ gearbox case which means you have also changed from A series transfer gears to A+..

You need an A+ transfer case now...

Or change your idler gear to an A series variant of the SC gears you have there and change the bearing in the gearbox from the A+ idler bearing to the conversion bearing DAM3745 and then you can use your existing A series transfer case.

Going to sound stupid here, but I'm stuck, and can't do a search as I don't know what to search for!!
I've swopped the gearbox on my engine from a mk1 remote box to a later style one.
However the centre gear has a different diameter. (19mm and 22mm approx)
My question is, can the bearing be changed, or do I need a new case all together? And/or starter etc
Hope it makes sense! And thanks

While you're there you will also need a new stabiliser bush at the back of the case, and I would suggest a new spigot bearing, as the bearing is a matched pair to the race fitted in the transfer case.

you will also need to change the idler gear, to one with a smaller diameter shaft. This may involve first finding out who made/supplied the straight cut drop gears

Think I'll get a A+ transfer case then.
Is this something you could help me with at all?

Why not stay with the remote. Best engine steady money can buy!

Maybe, but the A+ gearbox is a lot stronger.
