So it begins with a simple drive in the countryside when my wife spots a cute little green mini by the side of the road....
We look and oh my it's for sale! Lovely little car cannot see any harm in calling the owner and dickering on the price. Two days later we have Benny in the family.
Electrical looks a bit dodgy as the lights only kinda work and there dash is home made with switches everywhere and a strange looking switch upside down the is for driving lights as per the previous owner.
Driving for a month as is and not worried as it is light late but. Ow fall/winter is upon us and it is time to look into matter a touch closer.
Step one sort out the lights,
Turn on ignition, one dipped light comes on
Left side rear marker light comes on
Not much else
Step two turn lights to first stop, front marker lights (tiny bulb inside main bulb) comes on both left and right but lamp dims
Step three turn lights to second stop, both rear marker lights come on and left main bean is a little brighter.
Step four in-dip lights, nothing,
Test un-dipped light flasher on stock, light un-dip
Finally test driving light. Working
Looking into stuff, driving lights have no relay, full power through switch and do not turn off when lights are dipped ( the law here in Canada) relay purchased but not installed until the remaining issues sorted.
Pull dash and look behind..... Cry..... Cry some more.
When the dash was made the artist used all red wiring... For everything. Main light switch wiring is melted in a couple of places just behind the female connector. New connector ordered. Trace wires to 4 inline fuses all 15 amps, one for left and right of both dipped and un-dipped bulbs. Nice extra protection however one fuse is melted into the holder and clearly the amperage is incorrect. 55watts/12 volts equals 4.5 amps draw. right? Going to look into a fuse block here with blade fuses as set up is. Not in the Haynes manual.
Looking at all the other goodies there is some type of alarm system, I donot have the fobs so hopefully this is not problematic as I tear into the electrics. There is also a switch illumination system of some type but no writing on the unit, half of the leads were pulled and of course no direction to repair same.
I'll update as I go on the first step is to clean up behind the dash and check each circuit. I'llstart with the lights as I'm also adding fog lamps front and the single red rear. I'm hoping to put these on the same relay but only time will tell.
New dash designing underway with cardboard cutout for guage placement and wiring thoughts!
Will look at loading picks when I figure out how.
Cheers
