I'm looking at improving the brakes on my mini and have read that the minispares carbon metallic pads are the best available but have a few questions.

I currently have minisport 7.9" vented 4 pots with grooved disks and green stuff pads.

Ive never been impressed with the green stuff pads over the ferodo pads i had before them.

I understand the pads should not be used with grooved disks. The disks i have are http://www.minisport...ented-pair.html

  1. Who sells the best quality disks? Or should i just buy http://www.minisport...ented-pair.html
  2. Would it be easy to get some 8.4" disks machined down to 7.9"?
  3. What are carbon metallic pads like for road use?
  4. Who makes the minispares pads? Minisport sell mintec carbon metallic at double the price.

Thanks

Danny

I remember years ago using carbon metallic brake pads

in my race mini they used to make my wheels lock up

I changed them and put in mintex race rally pads

Mintex M1144 will be chepare than carbon metallic and offer good braking when cold and great braking when hot, espescially at point that where an EBC green would start to fade.

There are some cons..

-They may squeal, for a road pad it will be annoying

-I dont know if they've got some sort of homologation nowadays but few years ago they had no and were not road legal, so its essential to check the legality of running such a pad on a road car.

Cant say if carbon metallic pads are road legal aswell, might check with the manifacturer

You would find EBC pads worse over Ferodo because they are s**t. Use a mintex pad I think CM compound would be to much for such an application. As said above M1144 would be the best region. CM compound will not stop you any better. Its the consistency of pad through a used temperature range and a CM pad would be a waste of money as it doesn't use your required range.

I'm running the MiniSpares CarbonMet's on slotted/groved 7.5" discs and they are flippin' superb on both road and track.

I'm not sure who makes the MiniSpares pads, it has been rumored to be Hawke or Pagid in the past, but it doesn't really matter does it ??

I also have experience of 8.5" vented with metty 4-pots and absolutely hated the Green pads, in fact I went back to "standard" Unipart pads and gave the Greens away after 100 miles to a guy running a Metro on night rallies.

Not sure this helps you though ??

Phil.

Thanks guys.  There seems to be some very mixed opinions in here.  The car isn't used daily just on nice weekends and runs.

We managed to pretty much cook the green stuff pads on a run in the dales last year.
