Im considering making an aluminium mini cylinder head. Not sure why, probably just because I can.

But I was just wondering could I use this once made?

Has anyone had any experience with them in the past or know of anyone who has made one?

I will hopefully be getting a CAD model of a Cylinder head in the next few days then I can start programming it.

If anyone has any Technical Drawings they could send my way that would also be great.

KAD make 8 port twin cam ones

SC make 7 port ones

Minispares have an 8 port head

I doubt they'd let you have any of their cad files though!

Webcon have ally 5 port heads to the original design, as do Moss. These are great because they are pretty original but have designed out a few flaws from the iron head. You just have the traditional problems associated with using an ally head on an iron block. Moss have an 8 port too, but it might be the Mini Spares one. And then there was the Swedish (I think) company who first came up with the 7 port.

It sounds like you are planning to CNC this from billet, how are you going to make the water jacket? I think the Finnish guys had more or less just a tube through the front and some drillings front to back but it's not great for handling heat evenly across the chambers.

Not sure about the water jacket yet. Once I get the CAD file I will be able to start making some design decisions. Yes I will be machining it from a solid billet.
If anyone is interested, it will be designed and programmed using Mastercam X9 and machined on a DMU 80 evo linear.

I'd be really interested in a thread showing the process.

Good luck

Imagine what you could build with a 3d aluminium printer if one existed

They do exist. Very much in the development stage at the moment. The metals are yet to be classified for aerospace use, so until then companies are reluctant to invest.

Look up LaserTec 65 on YouTube. The company I work for should be taking delivery of one of these bad boys with in the next 6 months.

New toy for me to play with!

And ALCOA are researching and investing in this for jet engine fan blades, so it's coming.
