Hi all, never used to be into the idea of an engine swap but these two engines both weigh less than the a series and both chuck out 100hp with no effort.

Therefore, i'd like to ask, what do you reckon the best conversion is?

If I do go ahead with this, i'll be sticking it in a standard roundnose, with its inner wings intact and no modifications to the bulkhead. I'm really interested in cost, ease of fitment, availability, scope to tune and so forth. I'd essentially like something i can tune up to a point without considerable drop in MPG and change in reliability. I'd potentially like to turbo or supercharge but this looks like its complicated to do neatly. I've also played with the idea of a downdraught weber, so we'll see.

I'm no stranger to fabrication and i'm happy to teach myself stuff so this will be a full on DIY (no pre-built frames, for example). Just interested to find out which is the most positive swap because im happy to put in a bit more effort for a better outcome.

Cheers!

My current daily is a 93 swift Gti 16v. In stock form its a fantastic free revving engine (steel crank,  8,000 rpm redline ) and this is with 250,000km on the clock, so the horses are pretty tired. The gearbox is a problem with these cars as the gear set is very small, which is good news for the mini but bad news if you're into bringing up the revs and dumping the clutch, especially on turbo or supercharged cars, there are gearboxes available with bigger gear sets but crapper ratios). cable clutch.

They respond well to tuning (factory JDM cultus put out 115 with a cam and better intake) and will push 10,000 rpm in full race. Not much torque at that power level though, sound beautiful when on cam.

Billzilla is an online personality who races these things as the old toyota engines they were using were expensive to tune to the same level, google him.

With a turbo they can reach in excess of 350hp, forged rods are availiable but basically nothing in the way of intakes or exhausts these days so expect to fabricate those, although there are some CAD files running about for intake flanges and mains girdles. Rods are available from china and pistons can be custom made.

Lastly they are an open deck design, so they blow gaskets if you have too much boost as the block flexes and the bores 'walk' so you need to be diligent with your block preparation (grouting/o-ringing)

Will fit under a standard round nose. but I believe the wings will have to go.

I planned for years to fit G13B but prices always seem high and harder to come by so in the end I went cg13 to keep costs low as it was going in a daily drive rather than a track toy etc

The cg13 take low-medium boost well, it seems that most of the Micra guys seem to try getting away with the standard ecu or nistune but in reality a stand alone would be the best option.

Yeah this certainly isn't a track toy, and i've been researching the cg13, you could almost get the engine for free if you broke the rest of the car for enough money. It seems both are an acceptable option!
