hi all my daughter has bought a mini racing flame , green g reg, its been fitted with a metro mg lump! when she eventually managed to get the thing transported home i set about trying to get the thing running, so ive fitted new leads plugs coil correct for 65d distributor cap rotar arm and lastly the module on the distributor at this point i was just desperate to get it running properly, ok it sort of runsnow but spark appears to be weak (also replaced/refurbed hif44 carb) and i dont know but if i remove coil king lead and crank the engine it seems to be sparking from lead to coil, but i may be going crazy..im not great with electrics so please can someone please give me an idea of exactly what wires/feeds i require to make it run.. or im just gunna have call in a electrician and admit defeat .athe moment ive got -wire from dizzy module to coil -,    +wire dizzy module to coil + and ive run a permanent live to coil + from starter solonoid this temp as im going to run wire from fuse 1 switched live as a feed as this is shown on a diagram that i printed of another site . compression is around 160 psi ish on all cylinders..     so after all that should i have any more wires ive got some spares in the engine bay starter solonoid is new also should i have any wires connected to this from the dizzy..     any help would be cracking lads and ladies and i and katie the owner would be made up if we can get it running properly with help from you ..

This system just needs 12v to the correct electronic type coil, and from there on to the module +, and a connection from coil - to the module -. Sounds like you have it right. I'd remove all other cables such as tacho cables and suppressors at this point while you set it up. Where at the solenoid did you take power? What makes you think the spark is weak? Have you timed the dizzy in?

My Metro engine dizzy is a 65DM4 or so I'm told.

hi and thanks for the post, ive taken a live permanent feed from solonoid i just pull the wire when ive finished trying to get it running.. im going to pull every wire off and start affresh at the weekend with new switched live feed from fuse one and im also going to solder wire to module on dizzy to ensure decent connection..regarding timing ive tried timing at 9 btdc but its happier at around 12/15 btdc!  the only thing i havnt renewed is the dizzy itself but if this weekend dont go as planed that will be my next purchase ..  one thing are the plugs from a mini fuel injected model the same as the mg .. as ive used them from are other project in the garage, i did however buy mg ones today and will fitting after ive don ethe wiring this weekend..  any how thanks again and i will let you know the outcome over the weekend..

hi sorted it there was a break in the low tension side wiring! the wire that has a resistor in originally had been modified (cut and twisted back together) ran new wiring and the little beauty fired and ran straight away retimed dizzy and adjusted mixture and its running great. now ive only got to sort the ride height on the front as after i replaced cones and pivot pins and bearings its sitting stupidly high  i think the trumpets might not be located properly and ill have to take it all apart again to investigate ..  Anyhow dan thanks for the post chap its nice to help others in trouble..

Well done for keeping at it....and finding/fixing the problem.

That's what I like about this forum, plenty of knowledgable people with good ideas and suggestions!

Cheers, Steve.

Don't worry about the height if you have fitted new cones, the car is always really high on them to begin with.  It will settle over a few weeks and will need to have the tracking adjusted after that.  The original service schedule on a brand new Mini included a tracking check at 3 months to cover this, so leave it a few weeks and see what it looks like then.
