Hi there,
Im replacing the oil pump on my 1275. Its a new reproduction with only two holes. My question is this, does the gasket require any silicone? Should I fit it dry or should I smear with oil or grease? I made a locking tab for the new bolt pattern.
The other question is that I have two gasket sets....one oil pump gasket is very thin...the other one is quite thick. Considering I only have two bolts securing the pump now is it better to go for the thicker gasket or the thinner gasket?
The last issue.... the gaskets that came in the kit are quite narrow around the edge, only 3 or 4 mm from the holes in the pump to the outer edge. Is this ok? Or should I just make a new gasket ?
Cheers
Simon

NO....
either a little oil or grease... last thing you want in your oil ways is silicon
Loctite the screws in
The gasket only needs to seal imperfections between the two metal surfaces, just make sure they are clean and free from all traces of old gasket, then either will do.

Check the depth/thickness of the old pump against the new - there are variations and different bolts, the wrong bolts can just bottom out before clamping the pump properly - close enough you can't tell, but far enough to stop the gasket sealing.
