.....because there's bound to be a Pt2

Thanks in advance.

I think I've got bits missing, but questions so far:

1 The wiper motor has a 5 wire connector going to it but only 3 wires coming out of it, no connector. The earth from the body of the motor goes straight to the shell.

IMG_1015_zpsebc6682c.jpg

2 The brown with almost removed orange wires going to this thing is presumably the 'resistor' on figure 18 in the Haynes. Where do you stick it and what , if anything, goes in the end?

IMG_1019_zpsb32aee87.jpg

3 Where do you earth the earthing wires to (yes, the body, I get that!)

IMG_1018_zps96c163a8.jpg

4 The part of the loom the sits under the front of the car has a load of double bullet connectors, presumable to attach a headlight loom?? I don't have this, only a long tail of leads which you can see falling over the front of the car. Do I need a small loom? Which side is this for and which side does the tail supply?

IMG_1016_zps4a513dec.jpg

5 where do the headlight wires (and indicator wires) go through the panels?

6 I take it the large hole at the top of the engine bay side panels is for the side repeater?

7 Where do you store/hide the starter relay?

 Thanks

Hi..nice rebuild.....the wires from the wiper motor....is this the motor from the car originally or is the loom new........the plug looks from a later flick/wipe/ 2 speed and the motor loks like an old just 2 speed item...........the resistor once conected is bolted to the baulkhead stifner behind the rad....see attached pic

009.jpg

as for the headlight and indicators the bullet ends push into the loom end so 2 blue headlamps to blue on loom ect ect Ind to coloured ends so red/green to loom ends ect....and the yellow relay is self taped ti inner wing just in front of baulkhead stifner.....hope thei hepls....good luck :highfive:

Good pic, thanks.
So by ' when the resistor is connected' sounds suspiciously like I'm missing what it's meant to be connected to. Which is what?
Got the headlamp loom idea, so I must be missing the wires it connects into. The tail of those I do have, which side does that supply?

I certainly don't have one of those! But as pointed out, difficult to know if the bundle of parts supplied is an early motor on a later loom. The car is an88 red hot so the later loom seems reasonable. Are all motors adaptable to flick/wipe/2speed by the addition of the park switch?

It looks like a late wiper motor to me, on the earlier ones the motor body was square not round, so my guess is the same as GraemeC that the Park switch is missing.

The main body earths attach to the bulkhead stiffener on the opposite side to where the Resistor mounts.  If you look at Mk1leg's picture you can see the earths attached by a big cross/Phillips screw directly underneath the hole the wiring passes through the stiffener above the brake pressure regulator.

And the starter relay attaches to the bulkhead stiffener on the thin angled edge.  In you picture showing the wiring passing though the stiffener you can make out a small screw hole, and that's where it attached with a small self-tap screw through a bracket on the back of the relay.  Yours looks like a later "Yellow" relay has been fitted without the mounting bracket, so you will have to get creative !!

Phil.

On Mk1Leg's photo, the resistor is the gold rectangle mounted on an allow plate on teh LH stiffener.  The plug you have should connect to this assembly.

Thanks,OK off to mini spares for the resistor itself and the Park switch.

Back to the Headlights. The bullet connectors obviously attach to something, presumably a loom I'm missing. Does the missing loom supply the nearside or OS and therefore the tail I have supply the other side. And....where do they go through into the wheel arches.

Thanks Guys, you're all doing so well, don't give up on me with the end in sight!

The headlight "looms" are attached to the headlight buckets/bowls in the wings.  The wires pass through a small hole where the inner wing meets the front panel, it's the channel shaped by the front panel in fact.  The wires should be coloured, so Blue-White is main beam, Blue-Red is dim beam, Red is side-light.

So the two headlights connect to the coupler for each colour, you should have three wires in each connector.

The rear loom joins the main loom up on the scuttle near the wiper motor and the in-line fuses.

Phil.
