Hi all,

I have searched for ages trying to find a topic regarding this but can't seem to find anything. I'm interested in making a completly New dashboard for my mini project. However I dont want the standard dashboard. I like the look of those minisave dashboards but I want to customise it and shape it myself. Has anyone got a link for how to make my own dashboard etc?. Or a guide?

Thanks.

The only place I've ever found a template for a dash in on the Cardiff mini club's site, hope it helps: http://www.cardiffmi...i projects.html

Thanks for the link. That looks really helpful but I am more after advice or guides on how to make a custom dashboard. Completely different to the original Wyle dashboard?

cheers

Similar question yesterday.

Lots of messy fun and very Blue-Peter-esque but the results can be very impressive.

Hi. Thanks that looks really helpful. I may have to give it a go and then maybe fibreglass over the hardboard to create a fibregassault mould. Any more ideas or help is welcome?

Cheers.

It's not really that you need to know how to make a dash, you need to know how to fibreglass and make moulds in general, once you know that you will be able to work the rest out. There must be tons about that online somewhere.

No mould involved in my method - no need since it's a one-off. If you are looking to start making several then you need to account for the thickness of the original versus subsequent ones you make from the mould and think about fixing methods. For a one-off you essentially bond the new structure to the fixings but if you've moulded it then you need to start bonding fixings to it and locating them accurately in three dimensions - not easy (especially holding them still whist the bonding agent cures.

Back in the 1960's and 70's I, like most young Mini enthusiasts at the time wanted a dashboard with a similar number of switches and dials to Concorde, many made their own diy or bought one of the many wood or plastic moulded 'aftermarket' Mini dashes available at the time with some varying results!

Today I personally like the simple original centre speedo dash with just a pod mounted rev counter added.......which I suppose proves that Issigonis got it right in the first place!
