Maybe a stupid question but I have noticed that the tailpipe of my Playmini cat back system is extremely hot after a run. So hot that you can only just touch it for a split second or you will get burned! The silencer is much cooler, but the tailpipe is roasty! 

 

Anyone think that's normal / abnormal? I have a suspicion the car is running a bit lean, dunno if that would cause a significant increase in the temperature of the gasses? It's a '92 Spi cooper.

 

Again, sorry if this is a stoopid question but I've never noticed it before!

Lean conditions increases the heat produced in the engine.
