right today i managed to get the rear panel completely welded on and all welds ground back i also cut out the rear quarter (well 90% of it) had to do this to offer up the new panel to get the placement right. as the damage was not helping.

bit of a shame really as looked complete with the new panel on. not a bad day but i hate tidyng up welds takes so long and so boring.

IMG_2342.jpg

and went a bit happy with the zinc primer wanted to see it all in one colour

IMG_2343-1.jpg

IMG_2344-1.jpg

IMG_2345-1.jpg

as you may see there is still some holes visible on the bottom of the hinge panel at rear they are meant to be there. there is weld in-between each of them the ones remaining are to be drilled through and welded up once the valance is ready to go on but i may wait to do this until i have it upside down and the floor in.

any comments welcome cheers for reading.

Wow didn't realise it's been so long since I have been on no major updates on body but the little bits I could get to have had a bit of treatment stripped cleaned and painted.

Got back from New York last Wednesday after 9 days away and getting married.

Hopefully will beable to get back on with the shell really soon.

well update all.

after getting married not much had been able to get done until today when it all changed.

i brought another body in the end this one is so so so much more solid it has had a shed load of work done to it already befor i got my hands on it, it is reasonably solid.but some of the work is not to my liking so all changed .

i cut all the new panels i had welded on to my other shell of and they are going on to this one as the majority of the work i am not happy with is the boot area.

IMG_2642.jpg

IMG_2644.jpg

IMG_2645.jpg

so there it is this is now an 1987 advantage rather than the 88 redhot.

means a bit more to me as it was registered 2 months before me being born.

out of all the minis i have brought (11) this is the only 1987 one i have owned.

but this is going to what i want not to factory not standard but what i want. sorry i no there are people who say it should be kept as was and i am a true believer in that but this is going to be the last one i do (famous last words) so its all me. haha

plus a mini saved in any way is one less in the scrap yard.

all feedback welcome

right bit more done over sat and monday nothing done on sunday but i will explain way after the update.

the whole back end is now in place and 3/4 welded up. rear arches welded up and repaired and back panel on. took longer than i first thought due to having to remove 4 battery boxes one over the top of the other. had to go through them one by one to save the boot floor as much as possible.

so here you go picture time

IMG_2650.jpg

IMG_2651.jpg

IMG_2652.jpg

that is how it sits at the end of the day. had to stop due to other plans.

Right sunday nothing was done due to me unable to refuse my mates car. he had brought it in october last year wanting to do it he got as far as taking it apart and thats it. it is MOT'ed till august and has a shed load of new parts for it that he brought when we went to bingley together. i will be putting it back together as is and using it no rebuild just drive it and use it then maybe after my one is done i will then drag it in the garage.

say hello to marvin

Magnum hit and miss mostly good to cut up and use as repair panels than whole panels as some
Of the fitting is really bad.

But all in all ok. But I have brought a lot again as heritage as the magnums weren't up to much.

well i made L2B.

6 weeks from bare shell to running car. i was one hell of a effort so pleased with myself if i don't say.

the week before l2b i was finishing my normal job then finishing the mini at 10 11 oclock at night alot of time and was pleased when it was done.

its not 100% more 75% but it was always just to get it on the road never make it look right some of the previous work on it is just dreadful but its legal.

so its names are marvin and PIG with lipstick on.

IMG_2772.jpg

then this was friday night at about 11pm befor l2b first time every driven on the road.

spent alday sat sorting out the running and make it as good as could be to just do the run.

IMG_2776.jpg

then the all important

IMG_2794.jpg

IMG_2789.jpg

IMG_2791.jpg

and after i have now had a few weeks rest my shell now gets brought back to me this evening to start on again.

Cheers Ben. It looks hell of a lot better than it is. The challenge was just to get it in one colour and back on the road it is so so poor under neath but it's legal.

The day after Brighton my wife said she wanted 10s so now a 7.5 kit has been fitted and wellers for her. Women lol

Good job on the express rebuild.  You know with your 10s (My favourite also) you will be needing some hilo's
