Silent Coat is well reviewed and is cheaper than the likes of Dynamat etc... look on eBay :)

I've used silent coat in the past with brilliant results. I have got 2 boxes of it ready for the next build.
IMO better than dynamat, used it once and it just fell off.

Tried roof flashing too, and all that does is adds weight!

Dynamatt is the best and the innovator of the material, Silent coat and Fatmat as very close now and a fair bit cheaper.

Guys

Thinking about doing the same to my mini whist it's all stripped out.
However after reading through a quite extensive I.c.e forum on it (link below) I have a couple of questions for those who have done it here.

1) how much coverage did you use / think would be needed?
2) have you had any problems with butyl products smelling when hot.

I know dynamat, silent coat and fat mat are all butyl based and the forum recommend some alternatives which aren't, just a shame you can't get them in the uk.

When using a brand name material I've never bread of anyone have a odour problem.

If you want to keep the weight down then about 50% coverage will do the job. Just make sure to cover all thin edges and joints that might buzz or rattle.
I did alsmost 100% coverage just because... ;) With the alacantara roof liner mine is like a listening room now :)

Been looking at silent coat. Do people use 2mm or 4mm and how many sheets as an estimate?
Thanks

I'm going to be using silent coat 2mm and I think I'm looking at the 40 sheet bulk pack. I can't remember how much that covers or how much you need for a Mini but I reckon that's a good starting point.

Roo

Did you order the silent coat? If so do you think the 40 sheet pack will do the job?

I haven't ordered it yet, and I'm going to order the 30 sheet first, if I need more then I'll order more. I'm gonna use 2mm silent coat directly onto the panels then 10mm closed cell foam as carpet underlay (closed cell so it doesn't absorb any moisture and hold it, if any gets in).

Also going to be using flashing tape on the smaller bits and on joins harder to cover with the 2mm stuff.

Ruckus

According to the website a 40 sheet bulk pack covers 43 sqft.

Sounds enough to do one mini fully.

I'm going to strip the interior of mine to make it quiter, do I need silent coat and closed cell foam sheet? Or is it one or the other? Going to use flashing tape also :-)

Anyone found the best place to buy any of the above?

Thanks

I've used about 100sq ft in total, but I've done my roof and both sides of the bulkhead...

Cheers for the feedback Ruckus.

Think i'll start with 43sq ft, as i'm not touching the roof (could come back to haunt me) or the outer bulkhead.

How easy was it to install / how long did it take you?
