Battery Issues

Best Answer Craig89 , 16 November 2014 - 02:08 PM

Whatever gives the best connection over the battery terminal, the best solution would be a bush with a slot cut out of it so that it tightened onto the terminal as you tighten the clamp around the bush if you see what I mean Go to the full post

I swapped to an Optima yellow top battery, and it has been great, a lot better than the old one! However, I had a very embaressing experience earlier where te car conked out completely, no electrics at all. The negative battery cable has come off the battery.

The issue is that the loop connector on the end of the negative battery cable, with the bolt tightened all the way, is too big for the knob on te actual battery. Any ideas on what I could do to have it tight?

Buy the correct battery clamp? Shim the negative terminal out for the time being if you really must although this is not ideal

I got one on the way, but for now what can I shim it with?

I got some lead, steel, copper? What would be best?

All sorted now thanks. I cut a bit of copper tube, slotted it and cut a bit out of it and put it over the terminal. Hopefully it will hold up!
