Hello Everyone,

So I bought the lousy boot seal (the one that seals on the body side and I keep getting rain in the boot area. So I got the new seal on the boot lid side, but what I don;t understand is how it goes on. Does someone have a good picture or video of how to install the clips and seal? Do the clips change between boot-lid type? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The boot lid has to be drilled for those clips, they don't fit later boots unless you drill all the holes. Hard to do all those holes without marking the skin once or twice. The body flange seal is far, far better, why are you saying it's lousy?

My boot has the clip holes already. Its a 79 Mini Clubman but I don't know why it just leaks. I've had the Body side seal on both of my minis and they leak.  :shy:  Am I doing something wrong?

As above, in my experience the type that fits to the body is far less prone to leaks than the one that fits to the boot lid is. That is so long as the join is placed at the bottom of the boot apature, if you put it at the top, rainwater tends to pour in.

The other thing to check is the seals between the tail lamp clusters and the body. We often sssume that the boot lid seal is the cause of leaks, but if these are damaged, missing or the tail lamp clusters are just a bit loose, then water can also get into the boot.

I have seen someone manage to get the seal on inside out so the seal lip pointed the wrong way, then they don't work well.

I've checked and and yes its from the boot seal. All the seals are new. I have the seal and the join is at the bottom. Dan, what do you mean the seal is inside out?

So that the seal lip is pointed the wrong way on the car, it then doesn't press against the boot lid hard enough. People do this because they fit it the right way first and find it's then hard to close the boot so they panic and turn it around. It's meant to be hard to close when new, it will settle.

Does the shorter end of the clip go on the inside of the boot lip ( and therefore the rubber point slightly towards the centre of the boot lid? ).....or t'other way?

Look at Daenesh's current thread about this, it shows correct figment. The fin should point out of the boot aperture, curving away from the opening rather than making the boot opening smaller!

Looked at it and yeah that's what I have now. Anyone else know which way the clips need to face?
