Hi,

I really don't know what's gone on with my car.. One minute my indicators work perfectly and then the next thing.. I have nothing, neither hazards nor indicators work when I try to use them.

HOWEVER, I know it isn't a dodgy connection within my electrics because when I alarm my car all the indicators light up.

Any idea on what it could be.. I've got to go out for a job interview in an hour.. I'm starting to sweat a bit. :'(

Thanks in advanced.

Sounds like a dodgy hazard switch to me.

Yea try playin with the hazard switch a few times and testing it mine does it all the time!

My MOT dude saw me drive into the garage using the indicators so he knew they worked but he couldn't get them to work because he tried the hazards first then left the switch on slightly! So i had to show him they worked when i got back lol

Sorry just seen the post. Got them working yet?

If not try taking the hazard switch out, spraying with switch cleaner then flicking it loads of times to clean it up inside, and stick it back in.

Or it could be the indicator flasher unit, behind the dash to the right of the steering column. It's a cylinder type thing that just sort of hangs down.

Or maybe the hazard flasher switch, on the bulkhead near the wiper motor.

Check connections to these and failing that connections on the fuse box.

Or it could be like mine... that they magically fixed themselves!

Cheers people, I'm gonna try all them 2mora..

I know about dodgy hazards because when my hazards are on they don't work so i'm hoping I never break down.. But my hazard switch isn't on!! so it's even more depressing!!

I got the job though. :withstupid:

The hazard switch controls the power to both systems. When the switch is set to off, it supplies power to the indicator switch. It's a particularly awful design of switch, I'd try that first.

Remove the switch and pull the plug block off it. Use a wire jumper to connect together the two wires arranged in a pair at one end of the switch, the indicators should now work reliably (ignition on remember) and the hazards should be off. Remove the jumper.

Now use a similar jumper to connect together the four wires which are grouped at the other end of the switch. The Hazards should now be working reliably, the indicators obviously can't if the hazards are.

If both of these tests work and averything flashes at the correct rate then it's the switch you need to change. Don't try re-building it, I used to do that and it really isn't worth it. They never work right again once they have failed once even if you can get them working. Buy a new one and make sure it's a genuine one.

Mine did the same thing. It turned out to be the fuse panel on my '92. Seems the old panel was corroded, so I replaced it with a new one.

Try pulling each fuse out and cleaning it plus the contacts. Then pull off a white and cleaning those contacts to see that clears it up.

Cheers,
JT
