Hello, 

 

I will have my engine out soon so will be changing my top suspension arms at the same time as they need doing  (more for piece of mind when pushing 200bhp   ) 

 

 

Does anyone know the difference between a hydrolastic top suspension arm and the more common dry one?

I was sort of hoping that one would be stronger than the other with not much other change. But if someone could tell me all the differences so i can make an informed decision that would be much appreciated.

 

Also if you have a picture of them next to each other could you please post it so that i can see.

If you really feel you need stronger ones you'll have to speak to Fast Carl.

Later arms 'look' to be stronger than the very early arms. As the other guys have said, the Dry vs Hydro Arms have diffent ratios (look to be the same casing though), fitting Hydro Arms in a Dry Car will make it stiffer (harder).

Also the bolt hole is different as it does not need to hold a damper on the hydro car IIRC.

I did measure some Arms a while back to get the correct Ratios;-

 

     Dry Arms    5.18:1

     Wet Arms   4.82:1

 

I think somewhere it was published that the Dry Arms were 3.0:1, I'm not sure where that came from and I can't see how that was arrived at.
