Before starting, both oil warning and battery/alternator warning should come on. Then when you start it they should normally turn off pretty quickly.
If the battery was pretty flat and the alternator a bit damp and the idle speed a bit low, these are all things that could add up and cause the battery light to stay on for longer than it normally should. If that was the light you were seeing and it's gone out now, I'd just keep an eye on it.

Sorry, I misunderstood.
Battery is normally red - this should be lit before you start the engine and go out.
Oil is normally orange - this should be lit before you start the engine and go when you start. When you stop the engine, If you have a fresh engine with a good oil pump and good bearings and cold oil, it can take maybe 15 seconds to come back on.
Do the dashboard back light and high beam lights work as they should ?
You said it was the orange light, which makes me think it's the oil warning light. If there's a genuine oil pressure problem, the light is more likely to show when the engine oil is warm. If you started it 3 times when the oil was cold it may light up until the oil is warmer (and thinner)
