I was working on my mini the other day and happened to knock the distributer slightly which wasnt fastend down much! , but i thought nothing of it, i then removed the fuel tank so i could get to my rear lights, in doing so drained the fuel, today it was about 0 degrees where i live and i now need it to be working for tomprrow to get some new panels welded in, but all night i have been trying to start it And its hopeless!!! I poured some fuel in the bowl and it ran for a couple of seconds , then cut out! The carb is getting fuel any help would be brilliant! Needs to work for tomorrow else il have to wait another week to have the new panels welded in!

Sounds like youve knocked the timing out by rotating the Dizzy if the clamp was loose. Youll need to re-time it with a strobe and make sure the clamps tight when youve done it !

To get it so it starts & runs youll need to have someone on the key turning it over while you slowly rotate the dizzy until it runs. It might be rough, but once its going youll be able to set the timing properly with the strobe.

Ditto to above. That's why I asked if it turns over. Whilst it's turning you need to turn dizzy very slightly, clockwise or anti clockwise until it starts.

Doug Lawson posted a comprehensive methodology for setting static timing here: http://www.theminifo...ic#entry3175385

Thanks Manannán.

Kyle, I know you are in a rush but please take a couple of minutes to visit my storage pages linked below.  There you will find a PDF copy of a document I wrote that will walk you through static timing.  It will not take long once you understand what your goal is.

https://sites.google...wson/home/files

(Look for "static timing" near the bottom of the page).

However, you said the engine ran for you when you manually filled the float bowls and then died.  You also said the carb was getting fuel.  Running for a few minutes after you filled the float bowls and then stopping suggests this is a fuel problem, not an ignition problem.  You said the carb is getting fuel.  However, have you confirmed that fuel is getting into the float bowl?  If your engine has HS series carbs with the float bowl on the side, try to start the engine, then remove the three screws holding the lid on the float bowl, lift the lid straight up and look inside.  The bowl should be 1/2 to 2/3 full.  If less fuel than that is in side... particularly if the bowl is empty... your float valve is likely stuck closed or blocked (assuming fuel is getting to the carb).
