Looking good mate, I'm nearing the end of welding now sick of the brown stuff.
Will you be painting it black again.

cheers buddy :) its been a long time (well a year) since i took the car off the road.

Yes keeping it black, will aim for a bit more chrome as well i think, love a bit of chrome :)

finally after a year and a bit, the car is finally painted! spent a fair bit getting the bodywork nice, managed to finish the prep, prime and paint in a day. annoyingly, the back end reacted to the paint, and it will have to be resprayed :(

hello all, i have been fairly busy with putting things back on the mini, but the main issue is finding where i put things :(

Cant do a huge amount, as the back end needs a quick respray and i need to replace the headliner (but need to buy new door and window seals) so will have to wait until minispares has a sale :D

heres a quick pic

the real big challenge for me is replacing the headlining as the car has a webasto sun roof, i will need to cut and customise one. also will need to redo the headliner on the roof itself, which will be a fairly big task :(

Been working when i can on the car, but time is short these days. started adding the last few bits to the car, like all the carpets, got my dash in, and so on.

20151215_061710_zpsxlgk3toq.jpg

Due to my mini having the webasto sunroof fitted i needed to create my own headling. managed to find some material for £5 per meter, which was ideal.

so here we go

Finally getting round to updating this;

I have now fitted the head-lining, what a PITA, would have been a lot easier without the webasto roof! I used a mixture of double sided tape and glue. Luckily i can re-tension the liner when attached to the frame.

20160109_140008_zpsndofexki.jpg

Not the cleanest job (still need to tidy it up), but all the edges will be covered by the roof chrome rails.

20160109_140015_zpsz6ye0cqc.jpg

Only the front part of the headliner will properly show once the roof is open, so i applied some extra material to cover the seams. this should also help seal the front part of the roof (i hope)

Started the part i was dreading most - the roof refurb :(   hate webasto roofs!   20160109_140031_zpsivveokx7.jpg

Getting the runners and sliders out - lots of rust sadly. luckily i have a spare roof i bought on TMF last year :)

Things are going well - my wife has been sewing away to get the headliner finished :)

As above stripped down my old roof to find that all the metal work needs a bit of attention - so have used my spare roof bars and bits (they were in really good condition)

here is the start of making the liner (for the roof)

20160123_210335_zpskzqkoncq.jpg

with the loops for the bars added

20160130_205955_zps9ir7wehr.jpg

One issue i found is that each bar and the main locking bar have sliding feet wrapped in leather (to help the mechanism slide)

Unfortunately, most the feet were completely worn or missing due to years (if not decades) of wear. I had a look, and to buy new feet it was £19 each, and considering there is 6, that would be too expensive.

Instead i bought some leather from ebay and repaired them myself

All bars ready to fit (with new feet)

right some more updates. The car is almost ready now, just a rear view mirror, aerial and boot lamp to fit.  I even managed to replace the chrome sill/arch trim which was not as bad as i though!

The webasto roof has been a bit of a pain, as it has involved a lot of tweaking. All the roof bars (sliding and rising) were fine, but the locking bar just wouldnt align!  managed to get it sorted though.

so a few pics

20160322_204829_zpss3d90tmr.jpgnew outer skin for the roof (thanks to my wife for sewing!)

20160325_131909_zpsantlxcay.jpggetting the corners sorted

20160326_095330_zpskgssvu0q.jpgCables in, patches on (luckily you dont see this side) ready to fit

Quick Test FIt - not too bad, little bits to do!
