Hi there,

I just signed in and so-called newbie in this forum. I tried search function to find answer to my problem already but didn´t find clear answer. Also please excuse my English - I am not native.

My 1996 SPI Mayfair auto has, to my opinion bit large turning circle. So I am wondering whether someone has installed a sports pack steering or not.

To my knowledge there are 3 different steerings available:

standard - 2,7 turns from lock to lock (proved on the steerings I have stocked)

sports pack - lower turns and large turning circle

quick rack - 2,2 turns with same turning circle as standard

Mine has 2,5 turns???? (rod ends already loosend so steering could freely move)

So could anybody make this clear for me?

Or is there any difference between RHD and LHD steerings? (my stocked steerings are LHD - my SPI Mayfair auto is RHD)

Or are there tolerances of 0,2 turns within the steerings?

Would be happy to receive a clear reply.

Thanks in advance

Herman

Some people fit what I call 'steering stops', they're normally fitted if the wheels/rideheight/or arches are non standard and they had clearance issues they slide over the track rodsunder the gaitors and basically stop the rack going too far, I don't know how much they reduce the lock but 2.7 L-to-L to your 2.5 L-to-L doesn't sound impossible

Thanks for your replies. I opened the gaiters but did not find "steering stoppers" or anything else which should not be there.

Any other explanation for 2,5 turns from lock to lock?

Thanks a lot.

The sports pack racks are only limited standard items I believe?
