So I've just bought myself and project and other than tarting up the shell I plan on stripping the subs, painting and replacing parts etc. anyways I plan on the car running on 10inch steels! The question is .... Can you put discs behind a 10 inch steel? If so, where is the best place to get the stuff?

If this is a silly question I'm sorry. This is my first ever build from a shell :-/ the Haynes and lots of posting will be happening haha

What have you got at the moment? You'll need 7.5",7.9" or 7" discs, although 7" ones are surposed to be as goo as drums. 7.5s is most common which you can buy a drum to disc conversion at about £450 or 8.4 to 7.5 disc for about £200, If you don't have 8.4's already I would try and get a set and then get the conversion as it works out alot cheaper.

It's on drums at the mo! With ten inch steels I'm open to whatever will work the safest but I really want the 10 inch steels

I would get this set http://www.minispare...|Back to search and then find a set of 8.4's with drive shafts, it'll work out alot cheaper than buying this kit. http://www.minispare...28.aspx|Back to

7.5s with a remote servo setup on mine on 10s really good.

8.4s you either have to run 12s or machine the discs down

Your standard steel wheels will not fit over discs so you will need a set of Cooper S rims.

You sure neil, Pretty sure I've see people running 7.5s with 3.5x10 rims.

I have 7" cooper discs on my mk1 and they're not as bad as people make out if kept in good nick. I was very dissappointed with a later Mini I had for a while with 8.4" discs that felt no better at all. And standard 10" steel wheels fit over the 7" discs no problem

The standard steel 10" wheels should always fit over the 7.5" 'S' discs and callipers. However, the standard Cooper 'S' 3.5" or 4.5" steels won't fit onto drum braked or 7" disc braked cars.

I've had 3.5 standard steel wheels over 7.5 brake set up before without no issues at all

I believe some standard (non-S) 3.5" wheels do just touch the callipers, but not all of them. In fact I think it was early '60's 3.5" non-S wheels which gave the problem.  They will stick out a bit, but at 3.5" it won't be an issue.

I am running 3.5" steelies that have been cut and banded to be wider. But the inside profile and width of the rim is unchanged and fits under 7.5" brakes
