Hi I'm running a stage 3 tuned 1330 at 95 hp over the winter I've put a 3 into 1 manifold on and will be putting a maniflow rcm exhaust finally I'm thinking of running it on super unleaded to try to crack the 100hp Mark I will be taking it to the rolling road once more but will the super unleaded make a difference or is it not work the extra few pence
Super Unleaded Opinions?

I always use super unleaded its a better fuel
and should pay for itself, tests when I lived in AUS
showed it gave a 5% better consumption
as far as I am aware those no ethanol in it

I notice a lot of difference in my Focus . Better MPG , more power , runs a lot smoother . Its really quite jerky and lumpy when cold but fine on good petrol .

Cian - if your 1330 carb and dizzy are set up to run on 95 octane fuel then a straight swap to 99 octane will not give any more power.
However... if the compression ratio is high and the current distributor is curved to avoid any knock/pre-ignition then changing to 99 octane may give some additional hp - but only in the rpm range which was previously knock limited and also will likely require re-curved dizzy to get best results.
Engine is most likely to be knock limited at peak torque rpm, rather than at peak power rpm. So changing from 95 to 99 octane might well give you more peak torque, but possibly not more peak power.

You will in a fuel injected car, as the ecu will alter the ignition timing to suit through its knock sensor. On a mini you're only taking the advantage of the cleaning properties SU comes with. Even minis on MEMS can't cater due to lack of knock sensor.
Its so crap it pinks when not warm .

I'm running a sc 5 port fuel injection management set up, I intend to get another tune up

I'm over in northern Ireland I will be using the guy who tuned it initially

The nub of the issue is, your mini will run better on the higher octane fuel, however you will need to retune the engine to exploit it to its full potential... So until your going to spend money on the tune up, don't bother changing the fuel.

I tried it in my standard 85 Mayfair, just for the cleaner fuel reason, used it for around 3 fill ups and made my engine run worse! So back to standard unleaded and it's running spot on again. My Mayfair is a grumpy little git though and doesn't like change lol ![]()
