im looking for a "fast road" cam of some description for an engine I want to build up, but I cant believe the price of them from new now.

why are they so expensive now? I know that the supply of old units that can be reprofiled is running low, but surely casting a new blank isn't that expensive? maybe im REALLY out of touch but a few year ago a cam on it own was way under £100, now im looking closer to £200!

anyone got a fast road cam for a decent price? 266, sw5 MG metro etc etc?

Generally, if you want quality, it costs what it costs.

I agree, im just wondering why the price of the quality has gone up so much. I believe some cams are still machined from old units, so its the same product still.

try AC Dodd, one of his cams got just under 100 bhp at slarks recently, and I'm sure they don't cost anything like 200

Most aren't due to lack of core. Most are made as new.

They were 60 odd quid when they were reground from stock camshafts. They're dearer now because they're generally machined from fresh metal now.

My first 266 cost £44 brand new!

That was a number of years ago now.

If you think £200 is bad, you should see what they're like for Evo's.

My cams are £115 exchange (a+ slot drive). Pm me your email if you want some technical info and a range guide.
