Hi experienced owners. I'm hopefully going to start my first resto project and along with the car the owner is adding a shell to the package. Here are some questions.
1. From the only pic I have, should this shell have any id or plate identification?
2. Is the shell even needed if I'm only going to replace just a few panels?
3. Any other things I should look out for or be aware of when I go see it?
(The resto will be the yellow pic)

Sorry I can't help with your questions but where is the car/shell? I assume not in the UK from the pics.

The yellow shell is left hand drive & as this is the restoration item, best to stick with it. Both are MKI's & should have body numbers on the bonnet shut panel ( if they haven't been changed).

All though the donor shell it R/H drive, the shells are basically the same.

 

It will probably suffer from the usual corrosion areas ( basically every where). If you intend to restore it correctly, then strip it to a bare shell & get it shot blasted.

This will more than likely show many more areas of corrosion.

But it will pay dividends in the end & don't throw anything away until you another item or it has been refurbished.

 

In the end it's up to you.

If the yellow car really is a Cooper then it would generally be worth more if you keep the original shell - assuming it still has its original shell.

 

The white shell looks pretty good so you could probably sell that quite easily and recoup some of the cost of the cost.
