Mrs B has given me a pass to go to the good ol' US of A for a week's break in Sept '16 with a good friend of mine. We have decided that we didn't want to do the usual touristy cities such as New York, San Francisco, LA & Vegas but would rather go somewhere a bit different (I've been to Orlando twice so that's out). We're both older blokes so we're not interested in beach holidays etc, but the good thing is we have plenty of time to prepare - we won't be able to book flights/hotel until next October.

We both wrote down various cities to visit, cross-referenced what we had and made the decision to go to Chicago. I'm just looking for ideas on where's good to visit whilst we're there. We will mostly be city-bound but we will be hiring a car for a day or two to drive the 3 hours down to Indianapolis to visit the speedway and museum. We are big foodies so are also looking for recommendations on steakhouses, deep-dish pizza and seafood. My thoughts are to get a hotel in the Downtown Loop, maybe the Magnificent Mile or possibly Lincoln Park if the first two are out of budget. We've both been trawling Trip Advisor but personal recommendations are always useful.

So who's been, and what are you suggestions? :gimme:

Iv been! I suggest you take an umbrella it rained a lot when I was there haha.

Goimg up the Seares Tower was an awesome experience so would recommend that unless you don't like heights ha.

A boat trip up the river was cool as well. Can't go without seeing the big chrome bean either.

Navy pier wasn't too bad either. I was only there a few days and would love too go back.

We went and it was a nice city, but the people are odd/rude. Things we did:

- Navy Pier
- watched the White Sox (was brilliant)
- walked all the major sights in a day or so

There's a great observatory, we went for a cruise on the lake and there's plenty of amazing pizza. I'd go back there. We stayed near the magnificent mile, easy to walk to most places of catch public transport from there.

Its great. Ive been twice in the last year through work. They love food and there are some great restaurants there!

Willis (Sears) Tower for the observation deck, John Hancock building for a drink on the umpteenth floor, and the science museum are my recommendations. Try and find a seafood restaurant when you go.
