I did a basic standard engine for someone many years ago. They had very little money. I managed to squeeze 55bhp from a used 998 A+ engine by rebuilding the headd no porting or valve size changes, or smoothing just a 3 angle valve job, skim to get the CR to 10.8:1 (leaded fuel then!) With stock intake and exhaust manifold and an MG metro cam. It went very well for what it was!

47bhp. It'll make quite a difference to how it drives. Clean up the short side radii on inlet/exhuast ports of the head and get a machine shop to cut 3-angle the valve seats (as above) and you'll maybe hit the dizzy heights of 50bhp.

Wow, I'm amazed!

54 BHP at the engine.
31.5 BHP at the wheels.
53 ft-lb of torque.
And a max speed of 92mph!!

Needless to say I am very happy with that set of results!

Just completed the 2 hour drive home and Old Blyty is transformed! Feels like a new car. Loving the extra torque and cruising speed is now between 70 and 80mph. Dissapointed that we had to put a pancake air filter on, but the car must have good sound proofing as it isn't really that loud at high speed! Some pics for your viewing pleasure; all comments welcomed!

Why a Max speed of 92 mph? I got 105mph out of my 998 City 'E' back in the day...

I'd be very worried about over 40% power loss between crank and wheels... ( or the calculation of flywheel figure is up the swannie )

31 at the wheels is not that good, my std 998 made 38 at the wheels...

Dunno, I guess they ran it to some sort of usual procedure? I need to get a Rev counter fitted so that I can see how hard I'm pushing it!

I have noooo idea about such things, lol! The figures are interesting to me, but not really that important. I judge these things by the seat of my pants, and he feels a lot quicker/torquier than before.
