Can somebody with a HS4 filter and a K&N style cone filter measure the distance between the filter and the bulkhead for me please?

Thanks in advance!!

What carb and manifold have you got on your mini ?, I have got a SU HIF44 ( 1.3/4" ) on my 1380cc engine with an ITG foam filter ( they use these filters on the F1 cars ). The ITG filters are smaller than the K&N cone filters but flow more air but, you have to use a light oil spray on both sides of the foam to trap small dust particles.

I would imagine an SU carb even with a K&N cone filter should fit without any modifications.

I need to know the distance, to know wich filter I'll be able to use on my weber :D

The 'lenght' of the weber with 3cm rampipes and manifold = the lenght of my alloy inlet manifold+ HS4 + cone :P

If you have already got a Weber carb and manifold then i would measure them when bolted together then, measure the distance from the back of your cylinder head to the bulkhead and deduct the Weber/manifold measurement from the cylinder head/bulkhead giving you the distance left to accommodate a filter.

I would do that :P But my engine isn't in the car atm :(

I assume you are going to fit the Weber so, if i was going to do the job i would modify the bulkhead whilst you have the engine out. Then you would be able to fit the Weber and the correct filter of your choice with no problem.

The problem with fitting a Weber is that the inlet manifold should be as straight as possible and of optimum length ( Vizards book is ideal at explaining this as various tests were carried out on different style manifolds and he states which one flows better.

There are purpose built bulkhead boxes designed to allow a Weber carb to be fitted, if you decide to change your mind and go for a Single HIF carb then there is more than enough room for a good filter.

The difference between a Weber 40/45 and a HIF44 is not that great and a HIF44 can achieve some good results if used with a good manifold and a modified engine setup.

Cooperman might be able to help if you PM him.

I have a cannon inlet orso, do better than the standard swnanneck it looks like a alloy su inlet. Cant modify the bulkhead with belgian law :(

Hi Dusky, I am no expert by any means and still learning from the experienced people on the forum but, what size is the Weber carb you are wanting to fit to your 998cc engine ?

I would think a 40 DCOE should be ok if your cylinder head has been modified, i would use some short ram pipes on the Weber which would allow a better choice of filter ( have a look at the range from ITG,as they do make filters for the 40/45 Webers, then find someone who can tune the engine correctly.

I think the problem is going to be the inlet manifold because if Belgian law states you cannot modify the bulkhead then it narrows down your options so you may have to look at the air filtration.

If you are not in a hurry to put the engine back in your mini then i would buy David Vizards book called " Tuning the A series engine " it really is very good and worth every pound / euro, and gives excellent information regarding tuning all parts and sizes of the A series engine.

The main thing is to, take your time and don,t rush things... All good things come to he who waits... ;D

Got it on a 3.5 inch redline manifold, pipercross 40mm filter with 25mm inlet trumpets ;)

If the Weber and manifold and filter are bolted to the cylinder head and engine then get a picture of it complete and post it on here, because i am sure someone will be able to work out some measurements for you to give you an idea as to wether it will fit or not.

Lil certainly do, vut I Lloyd fit Italië with the weber directly :P just waiting on a main rollerbearing and some gaskets now...
