I have got a kawasaki ZX12r engine to fit in my lupo, now i have conflicting reports on the sump issues. Some people say that as i'm keeping the engine in the same orientation as it was designed it shouldn't need anything more than a good baffle plate fitting, yet other people are telling me that its in need of a dry sump otherwise its going to have oil feed problems. Help! which is it??
Another quick question, has anyone ( bike engined chaps) fitted a single rear brake on the diff rather than staying with the standard approach of a caliper on each rear wheel? I'm thinking along the lines of the engine producing the extra braking and a single disc just to balance the braking. this would also save on weight. :proud: I will quickly add, I'm having huge discs and calipers up front.

;) :proud:

I know its not a mini but a few weeks back some of you guys said it would be good to follow the build and didnt mind me posting and asking for help. Its basically the same in principal as putting the bike engines in the mini but what can i say, no one is perfect. :)

Hi I dont have a bike engined car but on the subject of the single brake, dont you have to have different length driveshafts due to the position of the engine ?

Would that not cause a bias towards one side when braking ?

Personally I think you need a dry sump. When a motorbike corners it leans so the lateral g created with respect to the orientation of the engine is significantly less than a when mounted in car.

If you're going to use the car on track I would say its a good idea, would allow you to mount the engine lower too possibly.

Obvioulsy to have an onboard brake you're going to need a LSD.

thanks for the replies chaps, after a long hard think about the single brake idea i have decided against it. The cooling will be a nightmare and i arent too sure if it would be upto the job after a few miles of country lanes.

The drive shafts are going to be equal length and as for a diff, well, errr, its not having one! The car is so short and narrow that it isnt going to pose a problem with not having one. the only time i may find issues is slow cornering and car parks, which isnt why i'm building the car. Its going to be a very enjoyable time learning about its handling!! :-
