Yes these work, but you cant use them on minis due to the tight spaces which the brake pipes are routed.
You can use braided lines

The old Metro twin pipe system had a spiral loop covering them from new, just like these ones.

Don't look that armoured to me, looks more like a normal rubber hose that had a chromed spring wrapped round it.

IIRC quite a few cars had them as new - some just had raised plastic ridges

was a way of stopping rubbing when close to struts etc

never liked the idea of braided hoses - you can't see the condition of the rubber underneath

They are normally Teflon inside the braid which doesn't break down with age in the same way rubber does.

We used these on rally cars for gravel/forest rallies to deflect the stones from the flexible brake pipes. The main brake pipes were always run inside to prevent damage.

They are intended for competition cars only.

I've always found the term 'Armoured' to be a subjective one. In general it seems to me what they really mean is better protected than is otherwise 'standard'.

I do recall seeing a Mk.1 Lotus-Cortina rally car which had pieces of garden hose (that's what it looked like' over the flexible hoses to ward off stone damage. I guess it would have worked.

Since then the Aeroquip hose has become the thing to use for competition as it has so many advantages.

I aus we had armour plated fuel lines, hydro lines and brake lines. All ran though channels in the floor pan that had steel plates over them. Not that it did much good though.
