Guys,

Someones smashed the glass in my speedo, and in doing so will not pass its MOT.

So does any one know where I can get the glass for a centre speedo?

Thanks

The obvious answer would be to contact a place like Speedy Cables that rebuilds/repairs gauges.  Some repair shops will sell gauge glass and bezels.  The very early center speedos used domed glass.  I have bought suitable pieces of domed glass from clock repair shops (as in time keeping clocks... not gauge places).  I have also bought some flat glass and gauge parts from AutoElectircalSpares on eBay.  For example, search ebay for item 300922363895.  That's for a 5" piece of flat glass.  I'm not sure that's right for the Mini but it is close.  The seller may be able to tell you for sure.

Does a speedometer really need its glass to pass an MOT?

Should be plenty of speedo's ebay: the Morris Minor and some Austin 1100's used the same style of speedometer and will probably be cheaper then the Mini version.

^ this. I would like to see where on the regs it states it needs to be in tact. Quite happy to be proven wrong on this one as its all about learning.

Reading this

- the glass can be cracked, and still pass - if the crack does not impair the reading of the speed.  Down to testers opinion then.

Cheers guys.

Useful info dk and 62s, I did think it was something like 125mm which I have seen about on eBay and some clock shops.
Just Keep my eyes peeled; in the mean time I think I may actually have a Spare one I can rob off my mums old mini.

As for the MOT, I thought the same but the guy seemed adiment over the phone, I'll have a word with him when I go in up pick it up and report back.

Thanks again
