Fitting Red Spot Cones - Hilo Modification?

I will shortly be replacing my well worn standard cones with newly bought red spots.  My car is fitted with a Minisport Adjusta ride kit (see link)

On the Minispares site on the red spot page they make the following statement:

 

If using these on 10" wheels with Hilos cut 3/4" off the end of the centre threaded bolt of the old type Hilo with a circlip as it will bottom out on the cone spring face and the car will sit high, for extremely lowered cars the hilo face will also need machining a few mm.

 

My Adjusta rides don't have a circlip, and are clearly not the old type hilo, but do they need to be machined or modified? Anyone know?

The Red Spots have a higher static height than ordinary cones, on top of that, they are stiffer so for the same weight, will sit much higher.

 

So, what they are getting at is, in many cases, the overall height of the Hi-lo when wound down to the lowest, still may not be low enough, even to end up with a stock ride height.

 

Ideally and I feel it would be more helpful if they also gave some info as to how low the Hi-lo needs to be able to go to. You also need to get the height of the Hi-lo down so you can assemble it all.

 

I read somewhere else where it was suggested to remove the lock-nut. Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend that, the lock-nut is there, not only to lock the position of the center bolt (which I doubt would turn on it's own in any case) but to prevent the threads in the Hi-lo body from hammering out, resulting in an unexpected collapse of the suspension. Could be dangerous.

 

So, you may have to have some machined some off the lock-nut face of the Hi-lo body itself and possibly shorten the center bolt too.
