Thought I would start a thread to gather thoughts and plan ideas so I have a plan before going down the wrong path half way through the build.

The plan...

We have two minis here that we haven't quite figured out what to do with as yet. We have one with a body kit on it which the other half wants to use on the road and we have the donor car that is just too good to scrap so after browsing this forum over night I have decided to fit a silly engine into the donor car and turn it into a track pickup.

Here is my new toy...

This weeks homework..

Find plans or work out the engine stand bracket so the other half can work on her engine

Find plans or work out and build a car rotating thingy

Research which engine can fit in the bay (or boot :) ) that will give power but not restrict control

Any pointers or advice will be greatly received and be rewarded with liquid refreshments!

Hi, I'd firstly say you should improve the handling and layout of the suspension before you fit an engine or even start planning that, this way you will have the best handling package you can before you bring in silly power figures to the very dated mini design that wasn't intended to be used as a racing track monster.

Anti-rollbars and uprated 4 pot metro vented discs would be a place to start, on from there you're talking coilovers, rear beam, fibreglass flip front and doors/ boot lid ect..

What is your budget ?

Welcome to TMF by the way :proud: ,

Cliff

Hi Cliff,

Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the pointers, all structural points will be reenforced as i'm removing part of the roof so will loose weight and structural supports so I'll be fitting extra structural support as this will make the chassis and body nice and tight plus it  shouldn't add too much more weight.

Urm, don't really have one to be honest. I am an admin on the IMOC (MR2 Owners group) so heard of those engine being put in there. I don't really have a deadline so if the pennies stop coming then I can leave it for a bit, they have stood for nearly a year so really not in a rush.

Are the metro 4 pots the biggest you can get under the rims? Was thinking of making a bracket for the wilwood 6 pots but until I get to the breaking stage I haven't thought about that bit yet.

What do you mean by finer glass flip front? You mean bonnet? I am planning on as many carbon fiber panels as possible.

Here's a couple of useful sites for you to visit if you want lightweight fibreglass mini panels ;)

http://www.absmotors...php/classicmini

http://the-arc-angel...ategory&path=20

and for the running gear side of things there are companies like below that do most of what you'll need/want all from one supplier.

http://www.kentautod...ry/mini-brakes/

http://www.kentautod...isc-conversion/

http://www.kentautod...ion-components/

http://www.force-rac...ear-suspension/

There is lots available out there Haha
