Hi all I am unsure what to do at the moment what to do.
One idea was to paint the aluminium parts on the engine .what would be the best process to do on the aluminium parts or paint to do them in .
I was thinking of a silver or white .
Thanks

White will annoy you after a month as it goes dull or cream. If you do decide to paint it, use course wire wool on the part if it's bare metal.

I cleaned my transfer gear housing and clutch cover with a wire brush in my die grinder or drill, then degreased it with panel wipe and etch primed it:

After that I gave it two coats of aluminium paint:

Hope this helps

Smackfiend, they come up really nice, much respect for the work that went in to that.

While I've not done and and usually, I'm not a fan of it, I have been reliably told that Powder Coating of alloy parts gives very good results, much better than on steel.

If you are going down this route then I would recommend using deoxidene 624 once everything has been cleaned etc. this will remove any oil and treated oxidisation. We would then normally use Alocrom 1200 to treat the Ali afterwards then etch prime, prime and paint.

Due to how nasty Alocrom is don't bother with that plus it won't be cheap. This is the process we use on Civil Aircraft skin and structure.

Prep is very important when it comes to painting these items.

I did a very through prep or my remote selector box and the housing of my distributor before painting them.

Unfortunately the box they were stored in after being painted got full of water last year and by the time i got them out to dry them off, the paint had wrinkled and started flaking off.

I'm pleased it happened in storage rather than after them being fitted to the car.

I do quite like the colour of that ali paint, but i think perfect prep and the right primer would be key to a lasting finish

Wow
Thanks for the reply on this .I will go for the aluminium spray option instead of the paint option I think .
As I only want to do it once .
Thanks all .
Everyone is so helpful on here I am glad I found this site

Smackfiend that's a nice looking engine, I do love a white block, will be very high maintenance though.

On the subject of aluminum parts I have just had my clutch and flywheel housings media blasted and don't intend to paint them
