Any mods i can do to a 1275 block with a 1380 cc metro a plus head and a Cooper auto box I can do to get a little more power or not worth the hassle. Turbo is out the question due to grip and box reliability

The head does not govern the size of then engine, the bore and stroke do, so 1380cc head is nonsense... What you need to find out about the head is valve sizes, if it's unleaded and the chamber volumes, these may have been machined for a specific engine specification which may not be appropriate to a 1275 cc engine or an automatic...

What you should be looking for in an auto engine is a smooth torque curve up to about 4500 rpm, at which point even at full throttle the box will want to change to the next ratio. No point designing an auto engine to do 6-7k rpm as it'll never get there
