Hi peeps!

Last week I let someone fettle with my ignition timing, to make this a short story :

his timing light was badly connected in some way or another and he has put the timing at around -6 degrees of advance ( so basically retarded ignition)

Causing a red hot exhaust manifold...

WOudl this blow a headgasket? Only asking as I cant test the car atm ( bad fuelign on my weber, has a bad gasket wich needs replacing).

Car did not overheat ( was 88° coolant temperature)

Cheers

no likely,

its too much advance that tends to do the gasket, retarded timing will give the exhaust valves a hard time though.

No,

all I can think is the hot exhaust was down to fuel still burning as it exited.

Probably :P And all that fuel will be ignited because of the very bad timing probably :P

It will burn slower as the cylinder pressures drop with the piston further down the bore. It could also be some charges aren't ignited at all - until mixed with hot gasses from another bore, in the exhaust.
