sell that at work, sounds alright, but its not the best. Screens very low res compared to the Sony equivalent, and Alpines have a higher power built in amp. Quality of drop down front is pretty C**p too compared to say a post 300 pound Kenwood unit.
You can get alot better for the money

right well, it depends on what your after, loudness or sound quality, because there are two different types and methods:
1. Buy some 6x9's, Focal are pretty good, just run them off the head units amp, will be loud enough for a mini if its a 50W head unit
2. Buy some component speakers (these are usually tweeter, crossover, and bass driver) they will still run off the head unit, but to get the best out of them u should amp them up for nice clarity and volume
right, if your after a colour screen i can only recommend the Sony units at the moment, but you wont pay much less than 400 for a good one im afraid, if i were you i'd wait a while, save up, and get a CD/Radio/Screen unit all in one

If the system is gonna go into a Mini, you want volume, not quality. The cabin on a Mini isn't renowned for it's superb accoustic properties.
For my system, I went for:
Alpine 9823R Head Unit (with 4×50w amp)
Alpine SPE-6929 6×9s
Alpine SXE-1025 Co-axials
It's suitably load, and the quality is good enough too. I bought all the bits from MCS-Direct, good and cheap, ~£200 for the lot.

200 pound for the lot? sounds alright, but would a set up as say yours be suitable for drum and bass and hardhouse?

Well, if you go for that lot, you're spending less than what you would have for a decent Sony headunit, and the difference in sound will be neglidgble in a Mini.
