As above, and if not is there anyway to strengthen it to make it possible?
Thanks

You probably could but I wouldn't advise it, I think the hinge panel would bend a bit, you'd need to add better wires that hold the boot lid up to, and I don't think it goes down far enough to be a good seat.

I wouldn't do it, as said above the hinge panel isn't that strong and the cables aren't made for that either (although more likely to pull out than snap). I am sure you could strengthen it up but why bother? Just stick a couple of camping chairs in the boot.

You can sit on the boot if you weigh no more than about 20 pounds.

As others have said, don't do it, it will just end badly.

The hinges will more than likely crack as well. So basically the answer is no. As to doing something to strengthen then yes you could do something. You would need to have thicker support cable to start with, then behind the hinge mounts some form or reinforcing bracketry to spread the load into the boot floor with corresponding plates under that as well. As to the hinges well that is a separate issue and would need a design change to increase the hinge strength.

Ohh and just to say i fitted two new hinges to my lads Project Erm and without the support cables both cracked at the pin section.

If you was to go through all of the things needed to strengthen the hinges and hinge panel then you could replace the cables with suitable lengths of chain.

I would say just leave it though. I can't see it being very comfortable anyway

He asked a question as whether it can be done and what needs to be done to try and make it happen. Legit question to be honest.

If you want to sit in the boot then you need a mini van or estate. No problems sitting in the back there :-)

I think it would be pretty good if the work was done to strengthen it..

Range Rover style haha

Was there a weight limit for the luggage you could put on the mk1 folding numberplate ones?

Basically you are  going to need a  massive amount of work , either days of work yourself or hundreds of pounds to a confused bodyshop .

So you can sit on your boot .
