Hey all,

I'm going to be converting to non airbag with my MPi during its current rebuild.(don't worry, after its mot)

I'm looking at a sparco wheel like on my other min - can an mgf boss be used?
If so, are there any recommend versions to get?

Struggling to find an MPi specific quick release boss , so waswondering if a a rover /mgf boss can be used, and will this still allow the horn to work? I plan on fitting buttons to the wheel as per original.

Cheers

.

I believe that MGF wheels can be used on the Mini, and I am sure that I have read that somewhere recently but cannot for the life of me think where. I will post a link when or if I find it again though.

Are you completely removing the ABS system? How will that work with the ECU not reading the system and turning on the dash light? Of course, if you are going carb'ed and getting rid of the ECU altogether it won't be an issue, but then emissions comes into it.

I have to say, personally, I probably wouldn't bother messing around too much with a later Mini in terms of the ECU, airbags, etc. You can get some nicely coloured Rover wheels with the airbags that will fit - although with the best will in the world, those Rover wheels will never match up to the beauty of a Moto Lita leather wheel, or 70s period shiny wooden wheel.

Just my thoughts though.

I'm ditching the mpi system and going for the sc kit.

MPi seats just give me backache. It's sort of a knock on effect, the sparco seats I'm getting work better with harnesses, and I would like to drop the column too for better comfort, so non airbag for me is the way forward. Airbag should be replaced now anyway after 10 years?
Would love a sparco wheel or motalita, would like it quick release so I can take it with me when I'm travelling in the summer.

As regards to the srs light, if I remove the fuse for the srs and airbag it won't light up surely?

I know the airbag issue for the mot, but is there any problem not having the srs connected? Ie if the dashboard suddenly didn't have an srs light

I think Wood and Pickett do a boss for the mpi if my memory serves me correct. Have a look at their website.
