Just wanted some help compiling a list of items Im going to need for a fiesta brake conversion. Currently got drums, on an 83 mini city, and with putting a new engine in, hopefully producing somewhere towards 90bhp, i'll be needing better brakes.
So, from reading articles on this forum and others, I will need
Mini disk brake hubs and drive shafts (Ive been told metro set up will alter geometry)
MG Metro drive flanges
Fiesta callipers
Custom Hoses
Is there anything else to consider. Questions I can find no answers to as yet are
Will my current master cylinder be big enough
Will I need to fit a servo
Can the rear brakes stay as standard, or will there need to be any alterations, ie, brake balancing?
Which fiesta callipers can be used? At first I thought it was only MK1, but have read in other places, that up to Mk3 can be used!

see Steamos 'Italian job' thread in Projects, he did a fiesta conversion and ran into a few issues...
....you can get master cylinder extenders from mini spares etc (about £10) and increase capaicty by about 20%.
And not sure about mini hubs and metro drive flanges...think they might be incompatible...at least my metro hubs wouldnt work with a mini drive flange as it wouldnt bed the bearing in place properly
Hope that helps

My fiesta brakes are up and running nicely now.
Hubs - definatly mini
Drive flanges - definatly from a metro with vented discs
There are no issues with compatability my last car used the metro 4 pot vented brakes which used mini hubs and metro drive flanges as well - both of these conversions are fairly common espcially the metro 4 pots.
Fiesta calipers - I can say Mk2 work from experience and from what I've read Mk1 callipers are OK as well. Havn't read anything conclusive about Mk3s as yet so can't comment. If you are buying the calipers new you will probably need a trip down the scrappy for the mounting brackets as I don't believe the callipers come with them.
Hoses - I had flexis made by Moquip for about £35 (see a project thread by pickup76 for details - this is where I got my info from) but I suppose you could knock up a custom copper pipe and use the fiesta flexis for next to nothing
My car is a '93 so has a servo and it works fine - others I've seen do not have servos so don't think its an issue.
I think the master cylinder should be fine (I used the standard cylinder from my drum braked 79 clubman when I converted to 4 pots! and that worked fine)
Rear brakes are as standard on mine.
What wheels are you running as be aware no standard 10" steels will fit over the fiesta brakes. Most 10" alloys will fit - mambas and genuine minilights being notable exceptions not sure of others.
Need any help your welcome to PM me - also I'll be at some shows now its on the road, first one the show at stratford this wknd - you're more than welcome to have a look if you're going.

Ive got minilights. Not sure if they are genuine. They say minilight on the rim, but I doubt they are actual genuine ones! I could be wrong!
Cant make it this weekend, although my mate is going. My mini hasnt run since 1998, when I snapped a web on the crank. It also coincided with me leaving home, so, it is still sat in my parents garage 140 miles away. Ive bought most of engine now, so, just need to build it, get car up, and fit it, but mine wont be running for at least a year I wouldnt have thought!
Thanks for the info. Im going to be starting it over next few months hopefully, so will contact you if I get stuck!
Cheers for that, already had a good read over it! Looks like a good basis to start from!
