Could someone tell me which distributor I need please? I had a look on here and through my Haynes and I'm not sure.

It's a 1275 silver seal engine. The old distributor is duff (checked thanks to DKLawson) and I'm not sure the one on it was even right (it's one of the accuspark type electrical jobbies)

Non-ballasted ignition.

Any help appreciated, if you need to know anything else I can probably find it.

DK knows his stuff, but dizzy's only really  suffer terminally from worn shaft bearings.

The main issue is whether the engine is A or A+ - look at how the dizzy is clamped to the block. The alternator bracket is another clue.

Is there an ID number on a metal tag attached to the old dizzy?

To get a dizzy with the correct advance curve is a bit of a lottery, you can buy an off the shelf dizzy which will be close or there are now mappable electronic distributors available...

One is made by 123 and is available from mainstream mini suppliers ( eg minispares ) http://www.minispare...C-27H7775.aspx, but at £300+vat is a little pricey for me...

I've recently bought an Accuspark Stealth for a customer engine, which is not only programmable, but also uses a stock dizzy body so looks original..

http://www.accuspark...uk/Blackbox.htm

and even purchasing a new dizzy and the stealth unit is half the price of the 123

The Programable Dissys are good, however if you were to consider one of those, as Gues Works has suggested, have a look at the CSI's, cheaper than the 123 and a better range of curves to suit the A Series Engine;-

Or, if you wanted a replacement Distributor, I'm fairly sure this would have the same curve as original;-

The blackbox and holden look quite interesting, especially as I'm not entirely sure what engine I have. I'm sure there is an engine identification thread here, I might go trawl through that

I know it's a silver seal 1275 and that's about it... Also seems to have Bosch super 4 spark plugs, definitely important (or not)

The block in Guesswork's picture is an A Series, see the long alternator bracket because it was originally cast for a dynamo. A+ has the bolt holes above the oil filter. Silver Seal just means it's a factory reconditioned unit.

I wouldn't get too bogged down finding an exact match, jut a stage 1 kit will alter the advance requirements. Even if it's totally original, the petrol you put in it isn't.
